Founded in 1978, we started as a chili cook-off team before transitioning to a BBQ team. Originally named the ‘GODI Girls’ after our initial sponsor, General Oil Distributing, Inc., the name was often mispronounced as “Goody,” leading to our current name, the Goody Girls.
We began with 11 founding members: Shirleen Baker, Marilyn Blair, Sherrie Davis, Georgia Dunn, “D” Louvier, Jo Ann O’Rourke, Brenda Parish, Charlotte Russell, Susie Smith, Carol Stephenson, and Karen “Ducky” Walker.
Our journey began with the Humble Lions Club Chili Cook-Off, kicking off
a tradition of success. Since then, we’ve proudly earned numerous accolades at The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s World Championship BBQ Cook-Off.
In 2002, the World BBQ Association invited the Goody Girls to compete at the Gold Star International Cook-off in Switzerland, where we won 1st Place Chicken. In 2004, we participated in the Jack Daniels Cook-Off in Lynchburg, Tennessee. While we didn’t win, we did meet and befriend Guy Fieri which was just as rewarding!
